A break down decision
Once upon a time I was the editor of a student publication. That publication, The Daily Barometer, served the campus community at Oregon State University. I was a young editor and I learned the hard way that certain images can cause very large amounts of pain.
I learned that an image is worth much more than 1,000 words.
An image of a student wearing black face paint - promoting an event called "Blackout Reser" was a throw back to minstrel-era blackface. I didn't know what blackface was before this day. A part of me wishes that I could continue to live in ignorance of the racism and discrimination that happened in this country.
Another part of me knows that these lessons are not only worth knowing, but they are worth keeping. That's what this website is for.
My thesis project is broken in sections that I hope you will use in training and creating building blocks for the media that you participate in.
